Indian Ocean humpback dolphin
* According to the current understanding of distribution, Fin, Minke and Sei whales are not present in the Northern Indian ocean.
On 14th January i have sighted a large pod of Indo-pacific humpback dolphins at Aare ware coast which is located 15 km from Ratnagiri city. The pod consisted of around 20 individuals separated into four groups. The animals were swimming near to shore and were found to tolerate presence of fishing trawlers. The animals were probably hunting as tail waving and other tactics like jumping was observed. The animals showed off nearly for an hour.
I (Dr Ajay Pathak) personally observed the dolphins on Aare ware shore Ratnagiri. I have also managed to capture some photos by Fujifilm finepixhx50 camera with 24-1000 lens.
